Importance of Taking Mental Health Days from Work

Instant access and gratification are the way of the world. Many times, when we off work we are continuously bombarded with emails, group texts, or phone calls from managers regarding work related activities. During these times, we feel obligated to answer these communications- which can be true depending on your position but remember you also need a moment to unplug.

Employers usually do not understand that you are unavailable unless you submit PTO. The reason for your PTO does not need to be discussed with your manager as long as it is done in advance based on your company’s policy. Scheduling mental health PTO is important to avoid burnout, maintain a healthy work/life balance, maintain productivity levels, and staying engaged with your manager/employer.

Once you have scheduled your mental health day for PTO be sure this day is filled with activities that bring you pleasure from working out to running pleasant errands to binge watching your favorite tv series. No matter what you decide to do with your time- make your mental health day count!!
